The DR600® Modular Vehicle Logic Unit

The DR600® is Digital Recorders, Inc.'s next generation Vehicle Logic Unit (VLU), designed to be the on-board platform for your intelligent transportation platform.

The DR600®:

System integration. The DR600® is able to communicate, collect, and distribute data with all of your vehicle electronics via industry-standard open protocols or documented proprietary methods. In addition to the standard fare of serial and J1708 communication ports, the DR600® also includes high speed Ethernet, USB, irDA, and wireless data capabilities. The DR600® VLU is ready to tackle all of your current and future integration needs!

Talking Bus^® and PA built in. The DR600® has been designed as the next-generation successor to our industry-leading DR500C+ product. We've incorporated all of the Automated Voice Announcement System (AVAS) and Public Address (PA) features that have made its predecessor the transit standard, but didn't stop there. Greatly enhanced sound quality, twice as many audio channels, internal solid-state memory (no more PC cards to lose), optional integrated GPS, wireless, and Hands-Free Driver Microphone modules, and more have been added to make the DR600® a worthy upgrade. Already have DR500C's in your fleet? The DR600® is fully compatible in mixed fleet operations with our latest CRS software. Standard cabling and connectors compatible with your existing harnesses make retro fitting easy.

Advanced on-board diagnostics. Upon power up the DR600® automatically runs a wide range of system diagnostics and audibly notifies the user of any irregular or fault conditions. The system's status is also clearly indicated on a front panel lighted LCD. If desired, maintenance personnel may run a more comprehensive set of diagnostics during troubleshooting procedures. Options include wireless RF or infrared communication between the DR600® and a handheld PDA for advanced diagnostic and system configuration needs.

State-of-the-art technology. A Pentium-class CPU and embedded Digital Signal Processor (DSP) deliver fast real-time processing and reliable communication with horsepower to spare. Ethernet and USB capabilities provide high-speed pipelines for all of your current and future communication needs. System updates are transferred via unique "USB key" technology. A fast integrated wireless module is also available for hands-free transfer of data.

Solid-state and rugged. The system has been designed to meet the harsh environmental conditions found in transit applications, as defined in SAE J1455. Its heavy gauge aluminum, low profile, gasketed enclosure and solid state electronics provide protection from extremes in temperature, humidity, shock, and vibration. A fully protected and conditioned power supply with wide input tolerances guarantees the DR600® to operate in the roughest of power conditions.

Modular design. The modular design concept of the DR600® allows each transit organization to custom build a system to meet their immediate needs, while still allowing future expansion as new requirements arise. Through a variety of hardware and software modules the DR600® is able to evolve with the dynamic environment of today's modern transit fleet.
